Pre-existing conditions can be covered under international health insurance. After you apply, we schedule a phone call to review your health history. Depending on the outcome, your policy may be issued at standard terms or with specific exclusions or with risk surcharges applied to the pre-existing condition. In cases where a condition is too severe to cover, we will try to refer you to a more suitable product.
Can I get covered if I have pre-existing conditions?
Yes, you can apply for international health insurance even if you have pre-existing health conditions. Pre-existing conditions do not automatically disqualify you from coverage. The impact on your policy depends on the nature and severity of your condition, which we assess individually during the underwriting process.
What happens after I apply?
After you submit your application, we schedule a phone call with you to review your health history. During this call, we assess any pre-existing conditions you have declared and determine how they affect your coverage. This medical assessment is required for all applicants.
What are the possible outcomes of the medical assessment?
Following the medical assessment, one of two outcomes applies:
Standard terms: your policy is issued with no changes if no conditions requiring adjustment are identified.
Coverage with adjustments: your policy is issued, but with one or both of the following applied to specific pre-existing conditions: an exclusion (meaning claims directly related to that condition will not be reimbursed), or a risk surcharge (meaning your premium is adjusted to reflect the additional risk).
Can my premium be higher because of a pre-existing condition?
Yes, in some cases. If a pre-existing condition is assessed as carrying additional risk, we may apply a risk surcharge, which increases your premium accordingly. We may also apply an exclusion, a surcharge, or a combination of both β depending on the condition. The specific adjustment will be communicated to you before your policy is confirmed. If you choose to not continue with the application process your initial payment will be refunded.
What happens if my condition is too severe to cover?
If your pre-existing condition is assessed as too severe for international health insurance, we will try to refer you to another health insurance product, which is better suited for complex health situations. Your initial payment will be refunded.
